6/14/2008-Scottie continues his streak

The day was nice and hot. No wind, no clouds, just a perfect day for racing!!  The car felt almost perfect in the few hot laps that we got.  I drew a fairly OK starting spot for the heat race; outside the second row.  When the race started I took off to an early lead.  The track had changed from earlier in the day and that made the car a little loose......OK a lot loose.  It was all I could do to hold off the hard charging cars that were running me down.  I got loose coming out of turn two and lost two positions.  I kept digging and fighting and on the last lap I lost another position. Luckily coming out of turn four I got a good run and got that position back by a foot at the line. I was OK finishing third after seeing how the car was handling.  It was a good enough finish to get me into the trophy dash.  Knowing that I couldn't race the car the way it was, the work was on. We made numerous changes to make the car handle better.  I started the dash on the pole and once again took off to an early lead.  It only lasted for one and a half laps before the car pushed really bad and the other three cars got by me.  It was back to the drawing board.  We made a few more changes and got set for the main event.  I started outside the first row.  Once again the flag flew and I was gone.  I had captured the lead by the time we got to the first turn and within a couple of laps I knew that we had made the right changes.  The car felt AWESOME!!!  I was slowly walking away from the rest of the field.  Just after the halfway point a caution came out for a car that had spun around.  We lined back up and got the restart.  I thought it was going to be a replay of the whole night when suddenly i noticed a tire to the inside of me. We battled for a lap and the the caution came out again.  I got another chance to keep the field behind me.  I got a good restart and was safe for a lap. Then a car got side by side with me and we had a good race going on.  I was just ahead of him when he drove into turn three too hard and hit my right rear tire with his left front tire. The two don't mix very well and the end result was the front of his car going air borne.  He was able to gather it up without losing a spot but that gave me the gap I needed to get into my rhythm.  A few laps later and the race was over. I had held the field off for one more victory!!!

Jerry's day wouldn't go as according to plan.  He started the heat race on the last row and it didn't get much better.  When the race started he passed a few cars and then his car began to push.  He fought long enough and hard enough that he was able to salvage a sixth place finish.  We also made a lot of changes to his car before the main in hopes of trying to make his car turn better.  He started in the middle of the field on the outside row.  In the first couple of laps it looked like his car was handling great.  He had worked his way up to the third spot when he once again started to push.  He did an excellent job of driving the ill handling car until the end of the race.  Just like the heat race he came across the line in the sixth position.  We are going to totally redo the setup in his car to fix the push before the next race!!

Until then GO FAST TURN LEFT!!!

Webmaster note:
We will be taking video and hope to post those Utah mini sprint racing videos shortly after the race.  Hopefully Saturday's racing will likely be posted Monday evening or Tuesday Morning.  The in-car camera had its fair share of problems this weekend so we will be fixing that and will hopefully have them for the next race.
