| It was a long drive to get to Olathe, CO. 5 1/2 hours to be exact. It would prove to be a fun and frustrating trip. On Saturday we unloaded to find that the track would need three houses of packing to make it race able. When the races finally started and 9pm both cars had to start in the back(visitor rule). The local cars had the track figured out and it showed as both of our cars struggled to find the correct setup. By the end of the heat race we had gotten fairly good and finished in the top five. |
When got lined up for our main we were about mid pack. The green flag flew and off we went. I had worked my way to fifth when we came up on lap traffic. I went low to pass him and by the time I got there so did he. I touched his left rear tire and airborne I went. I landed on his hood and then bounced sideways along the front stretch. My night was done. Jerry was right behind us when all this happened and to evasive action to clear the wreckage. His car was OK but a little pushy. When the checkered flag dropped he finished in the fifth spot. On Sunday morning we got the car fixed(with the help of the local racers). We were able to draw for our starting spots and as our luck would have it........we both drew the back row. !! |
We got lined up for the heat races and learned that the tacky track we had on Saturday had turned into an ice rink. Jerry had passed a car or two when on the third lap his clutches burned up again. My car didn't handle good at all and I finished the heat towards the back. When it came time for the main the track had only gotten worse. We had made numerous changes to the car to make it handle better; it didn't work. It was all I could do to drive the car as everyone else was spinning out. I had lasted longer than some and was in the fourth spot with 5 laps to go on a restart. Some of the better cars got by me and I finished seventh over all. Not to bad and just happy to have the car coming home in one piece. It was really fun to race on a new-to-us track and see some racers we hadn't seen for a while. Onto price we go |
